Nonvolatile BIOS memory refers to a small memory on Computer motherboards that is used to retailer BIOS settings. It is referred to as non-unstable memory or NVRAM because, after the system loses energy, it does retain state by advantage of the CMOS battery. When the battery fails, BIOS settings are reset to their defaults. The battery may also be used to energy an actual time clock (RTC) and the RTC, NVRAM and battery could also be integrated into a single part. The identify CMOS memory comes from the know-how used to make the memory, which is simpler to say than NVRAM. The CMOS RAM and the real-time clock have been built-in as part of the southbridge chipset and so they might not be standalone chips on trendy motherboards. In turn, the southbridge has been integrated into a single Platform Controller Hub. Alternatively BIOS settings could also be saved in the pc's Tremendous I/O chip.
